RAL (Reichsausschuß für Lieferbedingungen und Gütesicherung – the German Imperial Commission for Delivery Terms and Quality Assurance) is a series of color matching systems developed in 1927, to create a common language of color. The RAL system aims to subtract any confusion about the name or shade of a certain color. This uniform four digit numbering system is primarily used for metal finishes and powder coatings. Originally, the RAL collection contained 40 colors, this has grown today into 1,898 named colors. Currently, RAL offers three independent collections; RAL Effect, RAL Classic, and RAL Design, Each collection offers variety and precision colors tailored to the specific needs of the collection.  RAL color standards have been accepted worldwide.

The Sherwin-Williams Company acquired actual RAL Classic color standards (traceable back to the original master standards) in the development of this program. Each color was meticulously matched to the standard, and care was taken to control the color as tightly as possible. In some cases there is a slight variation from the standard as the standards are produced with inks and the pigmentations used were not durable enough for the performance we engineered into this system. Therefore due to pigment substitution there will be some slight differences from the standard on some of the brighter clean colors.

Our initial offering, Super-Durable TGIC-Free Polyester Powder Coating, is available in 188 RAL colors.  Fast turnaround times and flexible ordering quantities make it easier for metal finshers to meet tight deadlines and satisfy discriminating customers.
